Crystaltech MD Raises Money
for Charity with Pedal Power
Derek Maher, MD of specialist warewashing service company Crystaltech, took on the ‘Team Velo’ 3-day cycle challenge between two of the most iconic cities in the world – London to Paris – to raise vital funds for the hospitality industry charity, Springboard. Derek joined Malcolm Harling on behalf of catering equipment Suppliers Association, CESA, and raised and impressive £1,100.
Springboard helps young people achieve their potential; nurtures unemployed people of any age into work; and strives to alleviate poverty by supporting those facing barriers into sustainable employment within the hospitality industry.
The cycle challenge kicked off with a rainy 80-mile ride to Portsmouth to catch the overnight ferry to Cain in France and then a further 140 miles of beautiful French countryside, through Versailles and past beautiful historic places, before reaching the finish line at the Eiffel tower on day three.
“As a keen cyclist, I’ve taken part in quite few cycle challenges and was delighted that our team came 5th in the challenge, especially as we were the oldest team in terms of our collective age. This was a real team effort and it was great to be able to raise money for such a worthwhile cause by doing something we all love,” commented Derek.
