Crystaltech MD Takes
on London – Paris Charity
Cycle Ride!
Crystaltech MD, Derek Maher, joined forces with 4 other experienced long-distance cyclists to form ‘Team CESA’ to take on the Springboard Team Velo Challenge to cycle over 250 miles from London to Paris this weekend. Despite leaving London in adverse weather conditions, the team successfully completed the challenge and smashed its £2k fundraising target with a staggering £3.5k raised to help hospitality industry charity, Springboard.
Springboard helps young people achieve their potential; nurtures unemployed people of any age into work; and strives to alleviate poverty by supporting those facing barriers into sustainable employment within the hospitality industry.
The veteran ‘CESA’ team, consisted of industry heavyweights Derek Maher (Crystaltech), Malcolm Harling (Williams Refrigeration), Vince Wetherell (MCS Tech Products), Phil Coulstock (Smeg UK) and Tony Thomas (JLA).
They were an impressive team; Derek has a total of 15 consecutive London Marathons to his name, Malcolm Harling has completed Ride London 100 twice, Tony Thomas has a 300mile charity cycle ticked off his list of accomplishments, Vince Wetherell has done a few 100 mile Sportives (but never a charity event)and Phil Coulstock has done multiple events such as London to Paris in 2014, Venice to Milan in 2015 and a 60mile night ride around London City centre starting at midnight in 2017, all in the name of charity.
“As a keen cyclist, I’ve taken part in quite a few long-distance cycle challenges and was really pleased that our team came 7th out of 16 teams in the challenge. We are also delighted to have been able to raise well over our target for such a worthwhile cause and by doing something we all love,” commented Derek.
