Artisan Coffee Roastery and Coffee House Chain
200 Degrees Coffee is a small batch coffee roaster based in the heart of Nottingham which supplies ethically sourced wholesale coffee, equipment and barista training nationwide. The company was set up by three friends who all share the same passion for coffee and between them have 40 years’ experience of running cafes and restaurants.
As well as batch roasting coffee by hand using traditional, artisan methods from the roastery at the company’s HQ in Nottingham, the company has launched two coffee shops with concessions in a number of garden centres. The flagship 200 Degrees coffee shop was established in 2014 and is housed in an historic 17th Century inn in Nottingham city centre. The most recent coffee shop to be opened is situated below the Grand Hotel on Colmore Row, in the heart of the commercial district in Birmingham.
“We recognise that the perfect cup of coffee is not just about taste; it’s doing things the right way, and that goes into everything we produce.”
Tim Moss, Roast House Manager, 200 Degrees Coffee
Serving excellent quality and flavour of coffee is only part of the customer experience at 200 Degrees – how and what the coffee is served in, has to be spotless too. Poor dishwasher results at several of its coffee shop sites meant that all items were being hand washed, prior to entering the dishwasher, to ensure that high cleanliness standards were being maintained and customer perception of the coffee shops was excellent.
With an average of over 1300 cups of tea and coffee sold between its 3 sites every day, each machine needs to handle fluctuations in volume at peak times as well as dealing with cleaning varying types of food and drink matter from cups, cutlery and crockery.

The Crystaltech Solution
An initial site visit allowed Crystaltech to identify the wash result issues. These included problems with machine set-up, baskets showing poor quality and staff were pre-washing everything. As well as delivering a tailored fix for each specific site, the engineers at Crystaltech provided advice on best practices for keeping dish and glasswashers in optimum operational condition moving forward.
Crystlatech offered a free trial of a new chlorinated chemical which has been proven to both improve results and save energy costs, resulting in improved customer satisfaction. Whilst on site, Crystaltech engineers carried out a rapid-results, bioluminescence test, both before the problems were fixed and again after. This demonstrated the marked improvement in wash results using lower temperatures and without the need for the pre-wash which has saved valuable staff time. Crystaltech worked with the current chemicals supplier for 200 Degrees Coffee, to stock the recommended product range which has been shown to be more effective.
